Nachruf Prof. Dr. Karl Fuchs

Prof. Dr. Karl Fuchs studierte in Hamburg, London und Clausthal Geophysik. Nach einer Anstellung in der Explorationsindustrie (1957-1959) promovierte er in Clausthal über seismische Wellenausbreitung (1959-1963). Nach einer Postdoc-Phase in Clausthal und USA wechselte er 1965 an das Geophysikalischen Instituts der Universität Karlsruhe (TH). Von 1971 bis 1997 war dessen Leiter und wurde 1997 emeritiert. Prof. Fuchs forschte über seismische Wellenausbreitung in der Erde, die Struktur der Lithosphäre und tektonische Spannungen. Er war national und international ein führender Geophysiker, hatte viele Ehrenämter inne und erhielt zahlreiche Auszeichnungen.
